Hiking around Drumheller

Usually when we drive out to Drumheller we are heading directly to the Royal Tyrrell Dinosaur Museum. It's a world class museum with amazing exhibits, we all love it. Last time we went everyone enjoyed the Badlands Interpretive trail just as much as the museum itself. The kids loved climbing up and down the rock formations and hunting around for dinosaur bones. We knew we'd be back soon to spend more time exploring the Badlands. We didn't have to wait too long for a opportunity. The kids had a Friday off school so we booked the day off work and away we went. We started at the Hoodoo Trail. It's one of those places where you could spend a few minutes, or several hours, depending on how much of it you want to see. We spent a few hours going up and around and eventually worked our way up to the top, above the parking lot. Incredible views all the way around. We spotted some neat spots down in the canyon we want to check out next time.

After we worked our way back down we ate our packed lunch in the car and then set off for our next destination, Horse Thief Canyon. At first we thought it was just a lookout point. Then we walked around a bit more and found a bit of a trail leading down. We set our sights on a flat top directly across from the lookout.

The path was slippery with loose rock and we found a little slithery friend along the way. A good reminder to watch your step and keep alert.
